Blizzard warning in effect for:
- Inverness County - Mabou and north
Blizzard conditions with poor visibility in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring.
A low pressure system over the Maritimes will move to lie east of the island early Thursday morning. A few flurries and showers ahead of the low will end this evening. Snow and blowing snow will develop overnight as the low passes by to the east. Strong northwesterly winds gusting to 90 km/h will develop early Thursday morning giving near zero visibilities in blowing snow. Total snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 cm are expected.
Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours.
